Faces of Le Physique: Meet Brian Lau

Curious who that bright new face is at the front desk? Well sure, he’s wearing a mask, but we know you want to get to know Brian a little better and see what he actually looks like!

Q: What do you do and how long have you been involved in the (health / fitness / sports / wellness) industry?

A: Growing up I was an elite competitive gymnast competing at the national level until I was 17 (even made it to the Junior National Team at one point; but never competed internationally before). But before taking up gymnastics, I had tried a multitude of different sports, but I didn’t enjoy them as much as I put my heart and my body into gymnastics (literally).

Q: What inspired you to do what you do?

A: It can be amazing what kind of feats the human body can achieve. From being extremely flexible to being nearly superhuman like Captain America.

Q: What are your favourite things about fitness / Kinesiology?

A: Kinesiology is a constantly evolving science. There’s so much to learn about the human body, we’ve probably just scratched the surface.

Q: Outside of work, where can people most often find you?

A: You can probably see me slinging lattes and making latte art on your morning get-me-up at your local Starbucks.

Q: Favourite hobby?

A: I love making latte art, there’s something about it that’s so soothing and satisfying to watch and make. Gymnastics is still a huge part of my life and I go to drop ins from time to time to see if I can perform any old tricks.

Q: What’s your favourite music

A: A Capella; did I tell you I was a choir nerd back in high school?

Q: What’s your favourite exercises?

A: Muscle ups & squats

Q: What are 3 things people don’t know about you?

  1. I can dislocate both of my thumbs and make two little holes at the joint.
  2. I can’t swim very well. You would think someone as athletic as I was could swim; reality is that I’m a terrible swimmer
  3. I crack like a glow stick whenever I crack my back. It’s just audibly very loud.

Q: What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A: I’ve always wanted to

Q: What’s your spirit animal?

A: Pottermore says my Patronus is a Nebelung Cat, but I’ve always loved corgis. They’re playful and full of energy, but can be stubborn at times, which practically resembles me.

Q: Favourite TV show?

A: You can’t wrong with Grey’s Anatomy. That show practically lives on forever and Meredith Grey is absolutely iconic

Q: If you could be on any reality TV show what would it be?

A: The Amazing Race.

Q: Celebrity crush?

A: Harry Shum Jr. & Gemma Chan (Asians represent!)

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?

A: I absolutely love a good lasagna. Once you give me a slice, I might as well just take the entire thing for myself.
